Why Is My Location Wrong?

InfoHubs editorial • Updated 30 September 2026

A location result is an estimate. Your device and browser decide how to obtain it, and different devices can produce different results even when they are beside each other. A map pin should be checked against the place you actually recognise.

Read the accuracy estimate

InfoHubs displays the accuracy value returned by your browser in metres. A smaller number generally suggests a tighter estimate. For example, a result with a reported accuracy of 20 metres is more useful for finding a nearby position than one with several kilometres of uncertainty. It is still not a guarantee of an exact point or address.

Common reasons for a poor result

Improve the estimate

  1. Check both browser permission and device location settings.
  2. On a phone, allow precise location if appropriate.
  3. Move outdoors or near a window when it is safe.
  4. Wait briefly, then press Find my location again.
  5. Compare the map with a known street or landmark.

Coordinate accuracy and address accuracy are different

A coordinate can be close to your real position while the displayed place name is broad. Reverse geocoding matches a position to a geographic database. A city or locality label does not establish your building, apartment number or delivery address.

When to use another method

For deliveries, confirm the full address directly with the recipient. For navigation, use an appropriate navigation service and observe local signs and conditions. For emergencies, contact the relevant emergency service and describe your location directly; do not depend on this website.
